Description of the job
Shunter Driving Duties:
- Safely move HGV trailers within the yard and to loading bays, ensuring they are in the correct position for loading/unloading.
- Conduct pre-use checks on vehicles and trailers, ensuring they meet all safety and operational standards.
- Work closely with the loading and unloading teams to maintain a smooth flow of trailers.
- Monitor and report any vehicle issues, maintenance requirements, or safety concerns.
Warehouse Duties:
- Assist with loading and unloading goods, operating forklifts or pallet jacks as needed.
- Sort and organize inventory, ensuring items are stored in the correct location and in a safe manner.
- Prepare goods for dispatch, checking labels, and ensuring accurate counts.
- Conduct stock checks and assist in maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Support in general housekeeping, keeping the warehouse and yard clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
- Valid HGV Class 1 or Class 2 License (as required for shunting).
- Previous experience in a shunter role is preferred but not essential.
- Experience in warehouse operations, including loading, unloading, and stock management.
- Forklift license (or willingness to obtain one) is advantageous.
- Strong awareness of health and safety practices, both in driving and warehouse settings.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good communication and organizational skills.
